Relay Not Working / Radiator Fan : Honda Civic

This video shows how to test a relay on a honda civic. the relays on my car are operated at 12Volts and it is how I knew they are the same, allowing me test them (as seen in video). How to replace a Thermostat on a Honda Civic engine
Просмотров 258 тыс.11 лет назад
These are the steps I used to change the thermostat on my Honda Civic 93' Tools required: 10mm, Extension Tighten the bolts to 9 ft. lbs. or 12 N.m Note: If you tighten bolt more than 9ft lbs, they can break. Also, use physical characteristics of the thermostat to install correctly. The way it was removed should be the way it goes in.
Radiator Fan / Relay / Cooling Fan Switch Not Working: Honda Civic
Просмотров 1,1 млн11 лет назад
this video shows methods of troubleshooting a radiator fan on a HONDA CIVIC 93'. I apologize for it may be hard to understand some of my words. Steps I used to troubleshoot: 1) connect cooling fan directly to battery 2) test relay by shorting out the cooling fan switch with a paperclip 3) replace cooling fan switch NOTE: If upper radiator hose is flattened, the problem may reside in the thermos...

    Bro, I did every single test that is on your video, and many other videos, I have changed every sensor that my honda has, I have changed the thermostat and the fan does not turn on by itself. I have checked the temperature and it gets to 100° or 110° and the fan still does noa turn on. What could be the issue? The fan works if I make the short that you mentioned, but thats the only way it turns on.

    Thanks for the Great video! I did the same what you showed, I bypassed the fan switch censor with paper clip and the fans started working. I changed the fan switch censor but the fans are still not working. I bleed the coolant but no luck yet. Thank you!

      @@framesbylutuv I worked on the air bubble inside the radiator, it took me hourssss. After that, the fans started working. I disconnected the bypass.... You need to start the engine and let it run, keep the AC fan sped to the lowest speed while the temperature on the highest....un screw the bleeding bolt and watch the coolant....you will be done when the lower radiator hose get hot.

    HAve a 2001 honda civic. The car overheated as the fan is not working. It only works whenever I turned on the AC. Seems a sensor is faulty as it does not command the fan to rotate once temp threshold is reached. Just not sure what piece to replace.

    Check the fan switch first that way you can rule out both the fuse and the fan instantly and then check the fan and then the fuse if looping didn’t work

    Hey bro not sure if you're still around but thanks for this vid and info. I just got into cars recently and I've been learning a ton. Do you happen to know what this would look like if the thermoswitch has 3 prongs? My VW has 3(separate hi/low speed) and I've been trying to find info on how that would work compared to this usual 2 prong switch to no avail. Would it just have an extra bimetallic disc? Very interested in finding out. Hope you're doing well!

    Thanks for the video.. So I’m guessing that a “switch” is not the same thing as a “sensor”, right? I was trying to order a coolant temperature sensor that has a longer dip stick and they gave me the thing in this video.

    • @SnagEasy
      @SnagEasy 2 года назад

      people use the term interchangably and i never understood why. in reality the main function of the one i show in the video, for my honda specifically, is a switch. there is another sensor that is on the side of the engine block that changes resistance. that info is converted onto your meter on the dash for the driver to read.

  • @WavyVaporizers

    I changed the sensor switch on top of the thermostat and the 2 sensors below the distributor and my cooling fan doesnt come on when i turn on the ac and it's supposed to but never does. I checked my relays and fuses and they're fine. I thought maybe my fan needs to be replaced but I ran alligator clips from the cooling fan (fan on passenger side) directly to the battery and the cooling fan came on with no problem. So my question is why isnt my cooling fan turning on when I turn on the ac???? The fan on the driver side comes on without any problems.

  • @WavyVaporizers
    @WavyVaporizers 2 года назад

    I changed cooling fan switch ect sensor and the coolant temperature gauge and my fan still doesnt come on. I did the thing with the alligator clips connected to the fan and directly to the battery and my fan came on. I bought a new relay switch to see and still my fan doesnt come on so I'm guessing it's the thermostat since I already trouble shot everything else by replacing it. I have a brand new fan but I think imma send it back because it's clearly not my fan if I got it to turn on when directly plugging the gator clips to the fan terminal and the battery.

    • @That_One_User_314

      I used to think it was the head gasket or the thermostat of the car too (2000 Honda Civic). On my end, the Engine symbol turned red and somewhat faded in and out. After installing a new thermostat, it helped a little, but not a lot. My car's temperature still went up after 20 minutes of driving. It turns out one of the pipes that the coolant travels was old and very hard and was leaking (right side, under the serpentine belt). Apparently the pipes must be squishy in order to function well. Hope this gives some insight.

    Okay so I'm having issues with my radiator fans not coming on. I recently replaced my radiator and did everything correctly but now my fans are turning on. I they worked perfectly fine before the new radiator. I checked the relay, replaced the radiator fan switch. Did the paper clip trick which I'm currently using permanently when I'm driving so my shit doesn't overheat. So my question is, If everything in this video checks out and is good on my car, could it be the thermostat that is bad and not letting the fans engage?
